Practicing vs. Communicating Science

Science communication cannot be confused with the practice of science. No, you do not become a scientist by communicating science. A scientist can communicate, but a communicator cannot always practice science, unless they are also a scientist.

No, this is not elitism; it's a matter of acquired competence.

Therefore, those who only communicate science must always recognize the limits of their competence, taking care never to overstate or understate the facts being communicated.

In the words of Professor Marcelo Takeshi Yamashita, "One of the most recurrent mistakes is the rush to announce discoveries before the scientific community has had time to evaluate them." This mistake, made by the traditional press, is now joined by the rush of volunteer communicators to share triumphalist posts on their social media.

In the corporate world, as well as in the academic world, believe me, your credibility is what truly matters, not the likes on your posts.
